I was able to get a data entry job on odesk.com. It involves mostly copying and pasting info from a web site, but the thing is, with this particular site, you would have to click on each item/link to get the info you need and then go back to the main page, click on another item and so on. This led me to my search for a simple clipboard manager (freeware) with an intuitive interface that could work well with OpenOffice software and that works in much the same way the MS Word clipboard does (i.e., it could be placed beside the file I need to paste info to and pasting could be done by just clicking the item that I need or using CTRL-V or something similar).

I tried ClipMagic which is loaded with features, including screen capture, but it didn't seem very user-friendly to me, the Help file didn't really help much, and OpenOffice froze twice.  I then tried ClipDiary, Visual Clipboard, and MultiClipboard but they didn't work very well with OpenOffice and/or didn't function the way I wanted them to.

Now, I am using QClip from www.IronDust.com. It just sits in my system tray, and whenever I need an old clip, I just need to type Ctrl+Alt+V, choose the item on the clipboard that I need and then paste on my document or spreadsheet. I've only been using it for about an hour and it has definitely been a great time-saver. Unlike other programs, it can only carry text clips, but I've tried copying entire web pages and it still works like magic.

I am also using KeyNote from http://www.tranglos.com/free/keynote.html, a "flexible, multi-featured tabbed notebook." You can use it to keep your notes, recipes, lists, file archives, source code, or any quote or snippet you read from an article. It can serve as a personal diary or information manager. Best of all, it's free! It is distributed as open source software under the Mozilla Public License. I am beginning to love it and I am using it now to write this entry.

And since I'm on a downloading frenzy today, I DLed Rainlendar too from http://www.rainlendar.net.. It's a really cool tool for those who need to remember appointments, birthdays, schedule of exams, and things-to-do.

A Step of Faith

After resigning from my full-time job of 9 years last October, I decided to give telecommuting a try.  I recently signed up at both oDesk (private) and Elance, and I've read various articles on the subject that were mentioned by AllFreelanceWork, and Workaholics4hire, and other similar sites.  

I specialize in various administrative support functions such as data entry, audio transcription, and internet/blog research.  I am also attending medical transcription classes every afternoon so I can further improve my skills.

Why do I want to work from home?  I simply want to seek opportunities for continuous learning at my own pace and, of course, make use of my God-given talents and skills so I can help my family and continue to provide for the child I am sponsoring through World Vision.  I also would like to build my own home-based business in the future so I can help more people.  I realize telecommuting is not easy, but for me, it is simply one way of using one's talents to help others by providing good quality service which, in turn, will help bless others.  

If you know of any helpful articles regarding this subject or of any individual or company, esp. Christian authors or mission organizations, who may want to avail of my service, please do let me know.
